MRI tech licensing & ARMRIT vs ARRT acceptance by state

Each sourced row cites an official state board, administrative-code, statute or legislature page. Last checked 2026-10-24. 6 states confirmed to require an MRI license or certification; 44 not confirmed.

Not legal or licensing advice. Laws and board rules change. Always confirm with the state licensing board before you take a job or apply. "Not confirmed" means we have not found an official state source that answers the question; it does not mean no license is required. Employers and accreditors may require ARRT (MR) or ARMRIT even where the state does not.

ARMRIT's own recognition page lists New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, Washington and West Virginia as including ARMRIT in MRI licensing, and the Ohio Department of Health as recognizing ARMRIT. Each is checked against the state's own rule below.
